2023 Spring Production
1. The Original Soundtrack
Similarly, Selling Lovesickness (by Yao Lee), the song Hua sings in the play The Peach Blossom Land, expresses a strong emotion of missing somebody. While it is in a much lighter tone compared with Seeking since The Peach Blossom Land is a comedy.
Originally performed by Tsai Chin, Seeking is the song Jiang Binliu sings at the very beginning of the play. The song depicts one of the most important themes of the whole play about looking for truth, memories, and the one you love.

2. Our backdrops were made from bedsheets.
For the last scene in The Peach Blossom Land, we wish to show the poor life Hua and Master Yuan live, thus designed to hang a broken backdrop. To do that, we bought two full bed sheets from target, then cut and painted it with dark brown paints.

3. This is the first time TSAA used a gobo for the lighting design.
This is the first time TSAA purchased & used a gobo in the production! For the scenes where Tao travels from Wuling to the Peach Blossom Land, we used a gobo with ripple patterns and blue films to give a sense that Tao is by the water.
4. We "fixed" the cheongsam.
In the play, Yun Zhifan (protagonist of Secret Love) was designed to wear a white cheongsam. However, the side-slits on the cheongsam we ordered were a bit too big, which don't fit the personality of the character. After some discussion with the costume team, we decided to s a base layer under the slits. The fabric we used is actually a muslin piece left from my (Yue Cai) garment design course; I am also the one who sewed it onto the cheongsam in Studio 1076 in the Art & Architecture Building on North campus.
